The Operetta is a compact two-way design using a neoflex bass/midrange unit of 11 cm diameter and a 25 mm silk dome treble unit. The cabinet is manufactured in Opera's own workshop using solid mahogany panels, interlocked and braced in traditional furniture-making fashion for maximum rigidity. The Operetta's cabinet is free from resonance, so that the drive units have in effect a stable platform on which to operate and give their best results. The Platea's cabinet is made from solid hardwood, fully interlocked and braced in the traditional furniture-making manner. The use of one inch (25 mm) nominal thickness panels ensures maximum structural rigidity and hence the virtual elimination of resonance. To complement the high standard of the Platea's cabinet, excellent drive units are used. The 25 mm doped silk dome treble unit is made by Seas of Norway to Opera's particular requirements, and has good detail resolution, sound dispersion and sweetness. The 130 mm bass/midrange unit is a custom designed unit with copolymer cone and a generous chassis/magnet construction, giving good speed and damping. The overall sensitivity level is a generous 89 dB, with a nominal 6 Ohm impedance which together ensure an easy load for any amplifier. The Opera 1.5 cabinet is made from staves of one-inch thick solid hardwood, fully interlocked in the time-honoured tongue and groove method, then hand-finished wit rounded edges and flared port.As well as being acoustically inert, a solid hardwood loudspeakers is an object of beauty, capable of giving pleasure to the eye as well as to ear.The OPERA 1.5 employs two drives units, both in excellent quality and chosen for their precise acoustic characteristics. The treble frequencies are handle by 27 mm, which has good dispersion, power handling and excellent sweetness. Bass and mid-band are entrusted to a 130 mm, with double magnet and robust chassis, which is capable of good deep bass performance whilst maintaining clarity and precision right up to the crossover point of 2.8 kHz. The crossover itself uses a few components as possible in the signal path, but all are of the good quality and include air cored indictors with self-cementing windings and close tolerance non-polarizing capacitors. High quality internal cabling, hard wired throughout, and Opera’s own solid brass connectors complete the hardware specification. We recommend stand-mounting the OPERA 1.5, using a rigid stand of around 60 cm height, while placement at least 30 cm from the rear wall will normally ensure best result. The Opera 1.5 is a fairly easy load for the amplifier. With around 89 db sensitivity, therefore valve amplifier of 12 watts and upwards, or good quality solid state amplifiers of between 20 and 80 watts will be most suitable. The sound obtain from the OPERA 1.5, when partnered by good ancillary equipment and correctly set up in the listening room, in little short of a revelation.Refinement, detail, a wide overall response and convincing natural balance are all present in the portrayal of the music.
